I fence, so walls are an integral part of my defences.
A stoic philosopher once claimed that walls can be broken in many ways. Not if you build them with the right materials- some walls are built to survive breach forever.
My epee wall, however, does not resist such epic sieges. Nor, rather alarmingly, do any of the petty palisades I construct in foil.
Witness wall building, and watch how easily they fall apart. I should imagine that this would be of interest to any foilists. Anyone with fencing expertise is welcome to comment...

Building a wall can lead to stagnation and defeat. Every wall must crumble in the end. The bamboo bends whilst the oak tree shatters so throw open the doors of the fortress like K'ung-ming against Chung-ta. The most effective defence is a mobile one as through waiting for the enemy one becomes passive. Defence should be the like the crouching tiger, draw them in and finish them quickly using your tools of attack.
